CD Projekt Red has revealed that they have no plans to update
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to support Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro console. This new console allows for 4K gaming with PlayStation 4 games, as long as developers want to take the time to patch and update them. This isn’t the case for CD Projekt Red, as the developer wants to focus on their other announced projects, being Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 2077.
The process to patch
The Witcher 3 would be too time and resource consuming, CD Projekt Red stated in a recent interview. The console version of the game only has textures of a medium to high quality, and these would need to be improved significantly in order for 4K to display the game well. The PC version of the game, which does support 4K graphics, is able to do so as the textures already scale with the graphical power of the computer. Consoles were not originally built to have upgradeable graphics, and so CD Projekt Red would have a lot more work to do compared to how the game works on PC.
“Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent, and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro.” — CD Projekt Red
