Pokémon GO is the hottest topic in the video game world right now, and it’s racking up downloads and revenue at record-breaking paces, but the full experience isn’t even available yet. Pokémon GO is meant to be played with both your smartphone and a companion device called Pokémon GO Plus that alerts you to what’s going on in the game when you’re not looking at your phone.
Pokémon GO Plus was originally planned to be available by now, but Nintendo (who is producing and distributing the accessory) recently announced that its release is delayed to September. In a statement issued to Polygon, Nintendo revealed that the delay was necessary in order to optimize the accessory in time for launch.
“The delay is due to the preparations for the Pokémon GO application update in order to optimize Pokémon GO Plus. In order for us to offer new experiences to play Pokémon GO with Pokémon GO Plus with a quality level high enough to satisfy as many people as possible, we decided that it is necessary to take enough time for the completion. We ask for your understanding.”
While Nintendo claims that the delay was unrelated to production concerns, the extra time should allow them to be better prepared to meet the high demand for Pokémon GO Plus.
