Last week, following the Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, Niantic Labs released the legendary Pokémon Lugia and Articuno in Pokémon GO. These Pokémon, the rarest creatures of all, have been highly anticipated since the game’s launch, and their release inspired millions of people to go back to playing the game. In fact, market research firm Sensor Tower claims that the day of the legendaries’ release, July 23rd, was the app’s highest-grossing day since its launch in June 2016.
According to Sensor Tower, the app earned $5.8 million dollars in a single day due to the release of the legendary Pokémon. Needless to say, the app is once again the highest-earning app in the App Store. July 23, 2017 was the best day that the app has enjoyed since launch, narrowly passing October 28, 2016, one of the days of last year’s Pokémon GO Halloween Event, which earned $5.7 million for Niantic Labs.
Hopefully, this success will last, as the next legendary Pokémon, Moltres, launched earlier today, and Zapdos will be making its debut in the mobile title next week.
