A film adaption of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series has been in the works for years, but the project has met with multiple setbacks, including Mark Wahlberg backing out of the lead role and two directors leaving. Sony dropped the film from their release schedule back in September, but it seems things have been progressing since then. Shawn Levy (Executive Producer of Stranger Things on Netflix) was recently tapped to direct the film, and now we have good news to share regarding the script.

According to an Instagram post by Joe Carnahan (the film’s script writer), the Uncharted movie’s script is now complete. Carnahan Instagram boasts “If there’s a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood right now, I wanna read it, ‘cuz this thing is a BEAST.”

The Uncharted movie was originally slated to hit theaters in June of 2016. Sony first delayed it by one year, and then removed it from their schedule entirely. With the addition of a new director and the completion of the script, we’ll likely see a new release date sometime soon. Of course, there could always be more setbacks.
