Sony has been working on a film based on the Uncharted franchise for a few years now. The movie’s production has been interrupted several times, but it seems that the studio has made some serious progress in the past year, as Sony recently announced that it hired a director and that it produced a completed script for the film. Now, the company has revealed that the movie will be a prequel to the whole Uncharted series, inspired by the brief flashback sequence at the start of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and that Tom Holland, the star of the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, will be playing the role of the young Nathan Drake.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, which comes out in July, was also produced by Sony Pictures. The decision to cast Tom Holland for the lead role in the Uncharted film shocked many people, since it shows that Sony has enormous confidence in him, as he has been chosen to star in two of the studio’s major projects. After all, before he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland was a relatively unknown actor with few film credits to his name.
What do you think? Do you agree with Sony’s decision to cast Holland? Would you have wanted the movie to take place in the same time period as the main entries in the Uncharted series, or do you like the idea of a prequel? Let us know in the comments below!
