There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding Universal’s upcoming Nintendo theme park attractions, but that’s not the only Universal video game project in the works. Dragon Quest producer Ryuutarou Ichimura has revealed that Square Enix is collaborating with Universal to create a “Real Battle Attraction” as a celebration of the Dragon Quest franchise’s 30th anniversary.
The attraction will be created by Universal Studios Japan (it doesn’t sound like there are any plans for a Western equivalent) under the supervision of Square Enix. Visitors will arm themselves with weapons before heading into a dungeon to battle a variety of monsters. The goal is to make attendees feel like they’ve entered into a Dragon Quest game themselves. This will be a limited time experience (rather than a permanent attraction), and it opens on March 17th, 2017. It’s unclear how long the attraction will be available at this time.
