It seems that the Nintendo Switch is not the only Nintendo console getting some love from Atlus. The Japanese Shin Megami Tensei website is currently teasing a mysterious future announcement for the 3DS as well. What’s more, the webpage indicating this also prominently features a very interesting 25th anniversary symbol which contains both the Roman numerals of one, two, three, and four and the respective year for each numbered SMT game’s release. All of this seems to imply a collection of the four main entries in the series may be on its way to the 3DS.
Considering the recent
Shin Megami Tensei boom with games like Persona 4 and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, it would be wise for Atlus to capitalize on the growing interest in their flagship franchise. Both of the first two Shin Megami Tensei games were never properly released outside of Japan (short of a relatively unknown iOS port of the first game), while Shin Megami Tensei III, otherwise known as Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne over here in the West, is infamous in both its limited availability and its cult following. So, these are certainly games that could use an update as well.
Obviously, this is all speculation based on contextual clues within the webpage; please note that the only actual confirmed news here is that there will be a new
Shin Megami Tensei game for the 3DS. It could very easily be an announcement for another spin off, or even the fifth entry in the main series. No matter what it is, we will be sure to keep you updated when Atlus finally announces the mysterious game.
