What have we wrought? After the recent Nintendo Direct revealed that gamers will have the chance to play as Mario in a bathing suit in Super Mario Odyssey when it launches on October 27th, fans have already created a mod that allows you to play as shirtless Mario in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

You can see this mod in action in the video above, where YouTube user Nishman235 commentated over the fanmade shirtless Mario being used to KO fools crazy enough to combat the swim trunk-wearing hero in Smash for Wii U‘s For Glory mode. Equipped with pot belly, stubby arms, and, yes indeed, even nipples, Mario wrecked characters left and right. It makes one wonder if Mario will have any enhanced abilities while half-naked in Odyssey come this fall or if players will play beach dress up for the character only for the aesthetic value.

If you’re fine with aesthetic value and you love seeing a former plumber in a bathing suit, you can go ahead and download the mod for yourself right here.

What do you think about this fanmade mod? Are you surprised the community has rallied around shirtless Mario so quickly? Personally, I find it surreal to know we are getting playable shirtless versions of Nintendo’s two most prominent mascots this year. Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Hey all! I've been a gamer since I was three. I'm one of those people with gaming so ingrained in them that watching my father play Super Mario 64 is actually my first memory I can recall. I love writing too! I'm writing an original fantasy series that takes place in another universe; it may take some inspiration from some of my favorite franchises. I've been a journalist for a few years, have worked on local and national teams, and have garnered experience assigning stories, editing, writing, interviewing, hosting a television series, running a YouTube channel, and doing other stuff that's more fun to mention in conversation. Bios can drag on. Anyway, I'm super stoked to be a part of the Gamnesia team! Thanks for having me!
