Masahiro Sakurai has announced a new stage for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game: Tortimer Island! The stage is playable on the 3DS version of the game and will bring fans back to the world of Animal Crossing. The announcement came way of Miiverse and it looks like the stage is being developed only for the 3DS version of the game, which is disappointing. Though this move might make sense from a development point of view as the layout of the island has already been designed for the 3DS interface.

Sakurai explained in the announcement that participants are placed on a different island layout every time. There’s no telling just how many different island layouts Nintendo has developed, but we can definitely look forward to seeing different parts of the Animal Crossing world represented here — Everything from bugs to flowers to trees and possibly fish. In one image, Tortimer can be seen lurking in the background. This stage looks like it could be a lot of fun, and for those who plan on buying Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS will definitely enjoy Meleeing and Brawling on it. Are you looking forward to this stage? Would you like it to also be adapted to the Wii U version of the game? Should The Villager get any special taunts or moves on this stage, like Fox got on his stage in previous games, or Snake’s special taunt on his?Let us know what you think in the comments!

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, and though throughout my college career I was forced to write hard news stories about local issues and interview people like police officers and local politicians, I've always wanted to get into video game writing. Whenever I had an open assignment to do for a class I focused it on video games. The majority of the news I consume is about the gaming world, whether it's from G4, IGN, Gamnesia, Zelda Informer, or from my friends on facebook, nothing gets me more excited than the developments taking place everyday in the world of gaming. Now I don't only get to play the games, I get to write about them. And that is pretty awesome.
