A duo of trailers have been released, one each for Sonic Boom on 3DS and Wii U, showcasing how each one plays differently. The 3DS version is mostly a 2.5D platformer, but some new abilities are present. The EnerBeam whip is present and can be used to swing on poles. The four playable characters—Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Sticks (instead of Amy)—each have their own abilities. Knuckles can dig through parts of the ground to reach new areas, Tails can throw bombs at enemies, and Sticks can manipulate her boomerang in mid-air to hit distinct targets such as switches.

The trailer for the Wii U version is nothing special; we get a better look at the big bad snake in a suit major enemy for the game, but the rest of it showcases action from the game.

Our Verdict

Drew Navarre
Name's Drew. Currently making my way through Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series and waiting for The Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire 6). I'm a subscriber to Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe, and Mega Man and I read Superior Spider-man when I can. I'm a pretty big Nintendo fan, but enjoy the other companies as well. As it stands, I have a Wii U and a new gaming desktop (3.5ghz processor, 2GB video card, 8GB RAM with support for 32GB) and plan on getting a PS4 in 2014. As for Xbox One, we'll see, but I'm sure I'll add it eventually.
