Universal Studios Has Officially Begun the Construction of Super Nintendo World

0

We may still be a few years away from visiting the brand new Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios amusements parks, but don’t tell that to the hype train! Today, Universal Studios Japan held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the addition to their park, marking the official start of work on the new Nintendo-themed area. In addition, they also released a 30-second-long video showing the magic of what the upcoming region will hopefully have in store.

The above video does a splendid job of bringing the concept art for Super Nintendo World to life, what with Mario running and jumping through courtyards, Mushroom Kingdom hills, and more. Iconic locales such as Princess Peach’s Castle and Bowser’s Castle are shown off in the short proof of concept video, along with many other Super Mario series staples such as warp pipes, coins, and a flag pole—all assets that seem likely to appear in the real life version of Super Nintendo World once it’s finished.

While the video is quite excellent on its own, its visuals are not the only new details we’ve learned. The groundbreaking ceremony had several guests of honor, including Shigeru Miyamoto himself, and they used this chance to announce that one of the area’s rides will be based off Mario Kart, just as many had predicted over the past few months.

As of now, Super Nintendo World is planned for a
2020 debut first in Universal Studios Japan before the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. With another ride rumored to be based on Donkey Kong Country, Super Nintendo World is shaping up to be quite the treat for Nintendo fans in the future.

What do you think about this video and Super Nintendo World so far? Do you think the parks will be able to meet expectations when they are finally finished next decade? Comment below with what rides or other attractions you would like to see at the park!

Hey all! I've been a gamer since I was three. I'm one of those people with gaming so ingrained in them that watching my father play Super Mario 64 is actually my first memory I can recall. I love writing too! I'm writing an original fantasy series that takes place in another universe; it may take some inspiration from some of my favorite franchises. I've been a journalist for a few years, have worked on local and national teams, and have garnered experience assigning stories, editing, writing, interviewing, hosting a television series, running a YouTube channel, and doing other stuff that's more fun to mention in conversation. Bios can drag on. Anyway, I'm super stoked to be a part of the Gamnesia team! Thanks for having me!
