Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man game is set to hit the PlayStation 4 on September 7th, and, in preparation for the movie ten years in the making, the devs have announced that it will include a special costume based on Spidey’s Avengers: Infinity War outfit. The “Iron Spider” costume will be accessible immediately as a preorder bonus for anyone who wants to reserve the game before it launches.
The outfit, briefly seen at the end of
Spider-Man Homecoming, will be one of many suits available for Peter Parker to slip on before he fights crime as Spider-Man. Much like the previously revealed Spider-Punk suit, the Iron Spider costume is not exclusive to those that preorder the game. Preorders come with a digital code that will unlock the costume instantly, but it will also be unlockable in-game in some form for those without preorders. More costumes will be included in post-launch DLC, but Insomniac Games has promised that Marvel’s Spider-Man will not have microtransactions.
In the comics, the Iron Spider costume originated in Marvel’s “Civil War” crossover back in 2006. After Spider-Man joined Iron Man’s forces, he started wearing a Tony Stark-designed metal suit to show his loyalty to the Superhero Registration Act. While it wouldn’t make sense for the movie version of Spider-Man to have this costume in
Captain America: Civil War, since it was his very first appearance, his appearance in Infinity War finally lets him don the Iron Man-inspired suit.
The announcement was accompanied by a trailer, which will be played before
Avengers: Infinity War in theaters. You can check it out for yourself above.
