Steam has been in the middle of its Steam Dev Days conference, with one of the big announcements being a new controller for the Vive. While not officially announced to the public, Valve is collecting initial input from developers on the design of these new controllers. The main change allows players to open and close their hand without the controller dropping, letting developers utilize a much more natural range of hand gestures.

According to Valve rep Doug Lombardi, the company has not made any decisions on price or availability and is just collecting input from developers. A new controller this early in the platform’s lifespan has raised questions on whether these will be cheaper than the $130 regular Vive controllers or if discounts will be available for current owners. Hopefully we will learn more as the conference wraps up, so stay tuned.
