The original Wreck-It-Ralph was a relatively well-received trip down memory lane brimming with references to classic game franchises. Fans of arcade games and early consoles were treated to a feast of nostalgia. Six years later, a new trailer for the film’s sequel is out, and it’s a major departure. If you’re a video game fan, it might not be the direction you were hoping the sequel take.
The trailer opens with a shot of Fix-It Felix Jr. alongside other arcade machines like Space Invaders and Pac-Man, but the tone quickly shifts. Ralph and Vanellope leave the arcade behind for the internet and are quickly immersed in a world of modern popular brands like Amazon, Google, and Twitter. The rest of the trailer is spent showing off various Disney icons, including an extended scene of Vanellope meeting a gathering of Disney princesses.
Reactions to this trailer will probably be mixed. Disney fans may love all of the modern references, but people who fell in love with the original film for its nostalgic tone may feel left out by this new trailer. Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits theaters on November 21st.
