“Xbox One Price Too High” Says One Economist

The Xbox One is one hundred dollars more expensive than the PlayStation 4. That’s an issue for Microsoft. Although many of the suits over at the company may believe the console is at a reasonable price, many consumers are already turning to the PS4 for a cheaper alternative. Can the Xbox One do well at a higher price point?

One economist believes the answer is no. Rafi Mohammed, author of “The Art of Pricing,” states that a console’s aim is to get into consumer’s hands. The real money comes from games.

“It’s still $100 premium, and they’re including a Kinect electronic console which is a benefit over the PlayStation 4. What they really should be doing to get consoles in consumers’ hands is to decrease the price and make the Kinect accessory, which not everyone uses. Make that optional. An ‘a la carte’ purchase.” – Rafi Mohammed, Author of “The Art of Pricing”

The entire interview by Bloomberg TV can be found above.

What do you think? Is the Xbox One too expensive? Should Kinect be optional? Sound off in the comments.
