In case you’re not aware, there’s been an entire fiasco with how Nintendo handled the release of their GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U. They shipped out either bundled with a copy of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and a Smash-branded GameCube controller, or just as a separate accessory. This seems all fine and dandy until you run into the problem of supply and demand. Nintendo severely underestimated how popular these adapters would become, leading to stores having no stock and eBay sellers listing them for upwards of eighty dollars. Well, there’s now a workaround…sort of.
Play Asia is partnering with MayFlash to produce a third-party GameCube controller adapter. This adapter currently costs $33(USD) but does come bundled with a Smash-branded controller in your choice of either white or black. This adapter only has one controller slot but plugs into a Wii remote instead of the system’s USB ports, meaning you can use it on any game that would normally take a Wii classic controller. Considering the GameCube controller itself is already about thirty dollars in store, this seems like a great deal for those wanting to play Super Smash Bros. with this control scheme.
Are you planning on getting one of these third-party adapters, or will you just wait it out until the eventual restock? Let us know in the comments!
