2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the immensely popular Pokémon franchise, and The Pokémon Company is celebrating in lots of different ways throughout the year. As part of this celebration, The Pokémon Company spent $5 million to air a commercial during the Super Bowl (you can watch the extended version here) for the first time ever.

The commercial, themed “Train On,” was a huge hit, pulling in
millions of views and 88% positive social media feedback, while also reportedly causing one in ten people to cry. If that’s not enough praise for the commercial, it was also just voted by YouTube users as the winner of YouTube AdBlitz 2016. Fans voted the Pokémon commercial as the best of the Super Bowl, beating out T-Mobile, Mountain Dew, KFC, and numerous others.
