Another brand-new game in The Legend of Zelda franchise could come to the Nintendo Switch, according to series’ producer Eiji Aonuma. In a recent interview, Aonuma explained that there are still features of the Switch that he hasn’t fully utilized, and therefore another Zelda game could come to the console. In terms of expanding upon Breath of the Wild, Aonuma claims “it’s always easy to top the best.”
Going into more detail, Aonuma explains that the core elements of
Zelda games is playing as a character that grows and develops as the game progresses, as well as having the player learn new things as time goes on. Aonuma and the development team then usually expand upon these fundamentals, and presumably they would use the Switch’s new features to do so as well.
The full quote by Aonuma reads:
“I haven’t been able to fully use all of the new features of the system. There could be the possibility of another Zelda on Nintendo Switch. I think the core element of Zelda gameplay kind of stays the same. There’s the main character development as well as characters you meet along the way, and then you learn new things as the character develops. With that said I think we could keep all that, and then I do wonder how we can expand from here with that in mind.”
